We may be quite familiar with their music, and some of us may even be lucky enough to catch them live in performance. However, what many of us don't know is the philanthropic side to many of our local entertainers.

One such entertainer is Miguel 'Sizzla Kalonji' Collins, the founder of the Sizzla Youth Foundation, a non-profit organisation which seeks to assist Jamaica's less fortunate,

primarily those in the community of August Town and it's environs.

A recipient of the Social Development Commission's award for Outstanding Contribution in Philanthropy 2015, the foundation recently hosted it's Christmas Treat and Charity Concert on the grounds of the August Town Primary School.

The event, titled 'Kids' Kwanzaa', was one of the community's main activities for the festive season.

Children came out in their numbers to enjoy a day of fun, food and frolic.

From the numerous rides to the varying food offerings and care packages, all were well received by over 400 kids.

The venue was later transformed and it was time for the adults to receive their 'treat' - a free concert.

The concert began a little after 8 p.m. with the musical juggling of King Tafari with DJ Steppi at the helm. This was followed by live performances from a few of the community's most promising entertainers.

memory lane

Harry Toddler and the New Kids Crew later set the party in gear, as they delivered a wide selection of oldies and had the crowd going down memory lane.

Bling Dawg, who did a lengthy segment, delivered a mix of old and new releases, all to the jubilation of his fans.

Lutan Fyah, in his usual militant and poised self, delivered a crowd-pleasing performance, leaving fans wanting more.

The hitmaker, Tarrus Riley, could do no wrong. The lighter-burning, camera-flashing crowd was in a frenzy as the show moved into full gear.

One of the most unforgettable performances of the night came from new sensation Xylophone, who had the crowd hanging on to every note he delivered.

The curtains came down on the event with the host, Sizzla, delivering hits from his extensive catalogue. Bugle and Daddy Sizzla joined him on stage and the crowd-pleasing trio brought an end to an eventful day.
