More than seven beauties vying for Festival Queen

Over seven beauties will be vying for the crown in the upcoming Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Miss Saint James Festival Queen 2017 coronation show.
The contestants each exuded the confidence of winning the coveted crown at the recent sashing held at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay.
Contesting for the title included, Miss Fontana Pharmacy, Toni Ann Gayle; Miss Clinicare Pharmacy, Tami Ann Johnson; Miss WICAN Supplies, Whitney McKenley; Miss Gore Developments, Livia McIntyre; Miss Rose Hall Developments, Olivia Shaw; Miss Lloyd’s of Montego Bay, Miss Sashagay Silk; and Miss Chow’s Trading Centre, Yaneque Tinglin.  
Cultural awareness, community involvement, poise, confidence, speech, general knowledge and performance, are among the key qualities which the ladies will be judged on at the coronation show set for Sunday, May 28, at the Iberostar Hotel.
The victor will then compete at the national level for the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen title.
“St James continues to be a trailblazer and thrives in the national competition year after year,” said Nadean Rawlins, a member of the St James JCDC Advisory Committee. “We (St James) have managed to be placed in the top five for the past six years, with last year’s parish queen, Kyesha Randall, being crowned the 2016 national festival queen,” she outlined.
Jasmine Tomlinson-Brown, chairman of the St James JCDC Advisory Committee, echoed similar sentiments while noting that a lot of work is now being done to properly groom the parish contestants in hopes that it will bear fruits when the winner goes to Kingston.
“We are hoping that lightening will strike at the same place twice, because we got the national queen which we have not had for 13 years. So this year again, we are going to work on the ladies and maintain that high standard,” she explained.
