12 days of Christmas: Razor B to help the homeless

On the seventh day of Christmas, Razor B helped in preparations to feed the homeless.

Christmas is a season of giving, a time when the less fortunate are remembered and cared for in special, meaningful ways.

That was not forgotten for entertainer Razor B, SK Exclusive Mobile Detailing, and the National Council on Drug Abuse (NCDA).

Even as they make their own preparations for the Yuletide season, the deejay and his team have embarked on a project that aims at providing meals and some much-needed care packages to the homeless.

The project, called 'Tek It To Dem', is slated to roll out on December 23.

THE STAR followed the entertainer to Sovereign on the Boulevard as he did some grocery shopping at Shopper's Fair.

There were no price checks as he stocked up on items from a list he had been given. Not one item was left off the list as he enthusiastically spoke about the initiative and the smiles it will bring to the faces of the homeless.

Pointing out that homelessness comes about by circumstances and not by choice, Razor B said he did not hesitate to jump on board when he heard about Tek It To Dem.

"As soon as I heard about this project and what it was about, I said I was ready, and I called a few of my friends, too, to get on board. People are in some situations they don't ask to be in, and, we as Jamaican citizens who are let's say, 'better off', we need to start looking to those people and embracing them and showing them love," he said. "They are also citizens. Not because they're homeless, they still need love."

"This initiative is for those people who still care about Christmas. Christmas is about giving back," said George Davis of SK Exclusive. "We're hoping to feed about 350 homeless people on the 23rd, and we need the support of private citizens who just want to help."

His partner, Shalina Williams, indicated that their team hopes to feed the homeless in New Kingstown, Cross Roads, and downtown Kingston.

Ravil Gohagon, outreach officer for Kingston and St Andrew at the NCDA, told THE STAR that the initiative not, only needs donation of items, but he also wants persons to donate their time as they will need help executing the feeding project.

"We don't just want your donations, we want your time also. If you want to come out and help us, we will be setting up on the 23rd at 9 a.m. in New Kingston, and we will start our feeding that day. If you don't have anything to give, come and give your time," he said.

Items can be donated at all Cannonball Restaurants as well as at Cassup's Kitchen on Dunrobin Avenue. Items can also be dropped off at the NCDA, 13-15 Molynes Road, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
