‘A great partner in music crime’ - Egg Nog remembers Danny English

Egg Nog, one half of the ' Party Time' hitmaking duo, has hailed his long-time collaborator Danny English as a powerhouse lyricist.

English, 54, died at the Kingston Public Hospital on January 23.

Egg Nog, who collaborated with Danny English for the smash hit on the 'Diwali' rhythm, said the loss is deeply personal.

"You know seh me lose a great partner in music crime, 'cause most a the song dem, a really English magnify dem. Good manifestation him have, inno," Egg Nog said.

He added: "Me rate him down to the ground weh him walk pon. Although me did a gwaan wid my thing, you know, a di song weh him write mek we go Billboard, so mi give it to him. He was a good writer, good artiste, [and had a] good heart. I don't find no fault with him."

On Party Time, Danny English is heard on the intro singing:

Born Andrew Cox in Kingston, Danny English struck gold with his hit single, Bun, in 2000. Fellow entertainer Mr Lexx recalled the moment when Danny English got his big break.

"I think the day he realised that Bun was burning up the radio, him turn to me and say, 'Lexxus, mi buss,' and laughed. Jah, Jah!" Mr Lexx reminisced.

Mr Lexx described Danny English as a lively and happy individual. He recalled that their connection was forged long before they both found mainstream success, as they navigated the same struggles as aspiring deejays.

He reminisced about their early days at Arrows Studio in St Andrew, which served as his home base.

"He used to come hang out at Arrows Studio, which was my base studio, so we became friends and often walked and looked places fi go deejay. The whole process of performing, recording, delivering, and writing songs, etc," Mr Lexx recalled.
