The residents of Hopewell in Hanover were out in their numbers - adults and children alike - on Monday to witness the lighting of the community's Christmas tree on the grounds of the Bethel Methodist Church.

The tree lighting ceremony was done through a community initiative, pioneered by the Hopewell Citizens Association in collaboration with the Hopewell Community Development Committee.

Guest speaker at the ceremony, Pastor Floyd Whyte of the Hopewell Seventh Day Adventist Church, underscored the importance of showing love to everyone and sharing with others.

"In Hopewell, if we are going to have a better community, if we are going to have a better society, every single persons must make love their priority in life. You must love people," he said.

Cleveland Wright, president of the Parish Development Committee, implored the residents of the Hopewell community to always be ready and willing to volunteer their time and services, and be a part of the community groups that work in the interest of the betterment of the community.
