MAN BURNS CHILD WITH METAL FOR PLAYING

A man, who used hot metal to scorch the skin of a child, was fined $50,000 yesterday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Charged with cruelty to child and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is Renardo Douglas.

He pleaded guilty to cruelty to child and not guilty for the other offence.

Douglas told the court, "Your honour, mi nuh dweet wilfully."

Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey stopped him in his tracks and said, "You held her and burn her until her skin came off... you burned her on her hands."

Douglas told the court that it was the child who first burnt him.

"She was only playing with you for you to jump," said RM Pusey.

Failing to pay the fine, Douglas will spend six months in lock up.

No evidence was offered on the assault charge.
