Lawyer charged with fraud

Police yesterday charged a lawyer with fraud following investigations into the sale of a piece of land.

Detectives from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch have charged 55-year-old attorney-at-law, Laverne George, of Diamond Road, Stony Hill, St. Andrew, with fraudulent conversion.

The police report that in 2013, George was contracted to conduct transactions involving the sale of land on behalf of the complainant. It is alleged that George failed to pay over the total sum of money from the sale to the complainant.

A report was made to the police, an investigation launched and George was subsequently arrested and charged. She is expected to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in Half- Way Tree , St Andrew, on Tuesday.
