Elderly man on assault charge

An elderly man accused of punching another had his bail extended when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Tuesday Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Lopez Jones, who pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Crown alleged that on November 13, the accused man punched the complainant on the left side of his face and chest causing pain.

It is said that leading up to the incident, the complainant employed Jones to conduct some cleaning up exercises at his premises.

It remains unclear as to where the miscommunication took place, but the complainant claims that Jones went behind his back to carry out unauthorised work, slapping him with a $12,000 bill at the end of it all to boot!

Things became physical soon after, during which Jones is alleged to have punched the complainant several times for the money he believes is owed to him.

A report was made to the police and Jones was arrested and charged.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered Jones, who had his bail extended, to return to court on January 6 for trial. A fingerprint order was also made.
