Bus driver freed of several charges

A no-order was made against a man when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday, accused of damaging a bus and making off with the key to the vehicle.

Charged with malicious destruction of property and simple larceny is bus driver Jamaro Nooks.

The court heard that Nooks, who operates a in Kingston, was competing with another mini-bus driver to pick up passengers.

They were using their buses to secure a spot to pick up passengers. Things took a turn for the worse when the side mirror of Nooks' bus touched the other driver's bus.

The court heard that the other driver alighted from his vehicle and confronted Nooks when things got physical. The men became engaged in a violent tussle. Nooks was allegedly stabbed by the other man.

Some time after, it is alleged Nooks made his way to his opponent's bus, kicked open the door and removed the key from the ignition. It is said Nooks also took the driver's cellular phone.

In Court, Nooks explained that he went to the other man's bus to take the key as to prevent him from leaving the scene. The cellular phone, which he admitted he took, was returned.

The complainant, who appeared in court, is the owner of the bus.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ruled in Nooks' favour. Subsequently, a no order was made, allowing him to walk free.
