Family of three on assault charges

Members of a family accused of attacking a woman appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently on assault charges.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm are Neville Green and Jahbourhie Green, who pleaded not guilty, and Shakeema Green, who pleaded guilty to the offence.

The Crown alleged that on December 11, the Greens attacked the female complainant, hitting her all over her body, causing her pain.

"I went to a funeral on the day, on Spanish Town Road," Shakeema began.

The female accused went on to explain that she caught the complainant taking photographs of her using her cellular phone, which she presumably did not approve of. After acknowledging the complainant's activities, Shakeema said she left the funeral for home.

Sometime later, it is said that the complainant was walking along a thoroughfare in the community where both resided. The two hurled insults at each other, at which time things became physical. During the fracas, it is reported that the complainant used a shoe to hit Shakeema, while Shakeema used a cellular phone to hit the complainant in her face a number of times. It is alleged that Neville, who is Shakeema's father, and Jahbourhie, who is her brother, saw the squabble and intervened.

The police were alerted and the three were arrested and charged.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered Shakeema to pay a fine of $15,000 or serve six months in prison, while Neville and Jahbourhie were ordered to return to court on January 27, 2016 for trial. A fingerprint order was also made against the three accused persons.
