Angry son destroys dad's figurines

A disgruntled man accused of damaging the property of his father walked free following his appearance in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last week.

Charged with malicious destruction of property, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest is Bobby Brown, 22, who previously pleaded guilty.

It is alleged that on the day in question, Brown reportedly damaged a number of figurines in his father's home, where he resides, in violent uncontrollable anger. The accused man is said to have a cause for ill-feeling towards his father as a result of what he says is his unfavourable upbringing.

The court heard that during his last court appearance, Brown reportedly behaved in a manner not pleasing to the sitting magistrate at that time and was subsequently remanded.

A presumably remorseful Brown had a different attitude upon appearing again. "I just want to say I'm sorry for the figurines, and I want to say sorry to Trevor Brown (his father)," he said.

"Why can't you behave properly towards your father?" asked Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey.

"Your Honour, I don't know why," he replied.

Brown explained that he has resented his father over the years because he had never held a birthday party or merriment of the sort for him during his childhood years.

The court erupted into laughter.

"Get over it!" Pusey exclaimed. "You're a grown man now!"

Brown was subsequently admonished and discharged.

"Go on home with your father," the RM said.
