Man gets probation for stabbing uncle

A man accused of wounding another was sentenced to probation when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's RM Court last Thursday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is 20-year-old Kemar Thompson, who pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Crown alleged that on the day of the incident, the accused man and the male complainant - who is his uncle - reportedly got into an altercation which rapidly became physical, when Thompson reportedly drew a knife and used it to stab the victim.

In court, the accused man's uncle did not appear.

The court heard by way of his lawyer that Thompson was a father of one and had never been involved in any criminal matter prior.

"I'm going to give you one chance in life," Senior RM Judith Pusey said to the accused man.

Subsequently, Thompson was sentenced to 18 months' probation with supervision by the sitting magistrate.

"Find something useful to do and put down the knife war," RM Pusey concluded.
