Cop attempts suicide in Mandeville

September 27, 2016
A crowd gathers on the scene after the policeman tried to commit suicide in Mandeville today.

A policeman attached to the Area 3 police attempted to kill himself this morning when he climbed on top of a commercial building along Park Crescent in Mandeville.

According to eye witnesses, the cop was dressed in uniform and his face masked, with a rope ready to hang himself.

It is believed that he was there for more than two hours, knotting the rope, placing it around his neck and removing it several times as if uncertain about what he actually wanted to do.

With the help of a Jamaica Public Service utility truck and the fire brigade, the police, after many attempts, were successful in getting the cop down from the building.

It is understood that the policeman is now being counselled by personnel from Northern Caribbean University.
