Beaten for accusing lover of cheating

Junior Cunningham, a public transport conductor from Waterhouse in St Andrew, pleaded guilty yesterday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court to assaulting his girlfriend because of her constant bickering about him cheating on her.

It is alleged that in the wee hours of the morning on August 24, Cunningham and his girlfriend were lying in their bed at home when his phone rang and his girlfriend answered it without his permission.

It is reported that Cunningham slapped his girlfriend several times in the face and all over her body, causing pain.

The conductor, 21, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.

When presiding judge Simone Wolfe-Reece gave Cunningham the chance to explain why he hit his girlfriend, he said that she had always been accusing him of cheating.

'Get ignorant'

"I just get tired of it. Every time a di same ting: she a say mi have woman," Cunningham said. "Mi get ignorant and mi lick her."

During his explanation, Cunningham said while they were on their way to the police station, his girlfriend told the police that he had beaten her in the past, which caused her to have a miscarriage.

The complainant didn't corroborate those claims neither were they mentioned in the allegations that the court clerk read.

Cunningham is to return to court on September 22 when he will be sentenced.
