Help on the way for Nora Watson

Help is on the way for Nora Watson, an elderly woman who has been living in a deplorable condition in Bailey Ground, St Elizabeth.

On May 11, Dave Gayle, CEO of Heaven Inspired Disciple (HID) Ministries, will be hosting a benefit concert for Watson at the Northern Caribbean University gymnatorium in Manchester.

“When I learned about Mrs Watson’s situation, I was moved, and it rested on me for a while. I knew I had to help, and I didn’t want to help by just providing food. So we are looking towards building a concrete structure for her. I have also contacted a few churches so we can think of a way how to supply her with food as no one should have to bear hunger,” he said.

When THE STAR visited at her broken-down home in January, Watson stated that she had been bedridden for the past four years. The wooden structure was rotting, and in addition to not having potable water and electricity, there was no sight of a bathroom.

Gayle said that he is yet to meet Watson in person but pledged to offer his assistance as much as possible. In addition to Watson, the concert, which is called Till There’s More Love, is to benefit a Westmoreland family that has been struck by blindness.

“I am the last of seven children for my mother, and she was always helping people, so I used to travel around with her as she does so. She would bake puddings, along with other church members, and just offer her assistance in any way possible. It then became a natural desire for me to assist the less fortunate. This is the first staging of the concert, but I want it to be an annual one, and each year, someone will benefit from the proceeds,” he said.
