Man killed while walking dog
Sections of Hannah Town in west Kingston are tense following the slaying of a man on Drummond Street on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Courtney 'Mackerel' Wright. According to a report from the police's Corporate Communications Unit, about 6:50 a.m., residents reported hearing explosions on Drummond Street and alerted the police. When the lawmen arrived, Wright was seen laying face down in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to his head. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
When THE WEEKEND STAR visited Hannah Street where Wright resided, there was hardly anyone in sight. A resident said Wright was walking his dog when he was attacked from behind. The person stated that thugs also attacked Wright following the killing of two of his relatives last year.
"This morning him get up and a walk him dog as usual and the man dem time pedal him and kill him. The thing is that man make off him already and him escape suh mi think him woulda be more careful than that. After dem kill him family dem, man buss shot offa him. It just set a way ya man," the source said. The resident added that the killings stemmed from an ongoing gang feud between the Upsetta Mafia and Super Star gangs.
"The place did tense before and a now it tense because a bare shot been firing. The soldier and police dem pitch tent right beside the old police station but honestly, dem have to be watching dem head back too the way the place set. To be truthful, if them wasn't here, more drastic tings would happen suh we can't bash them. Is an internal war a gwaan because who use to be certain people general, dem a war now. Dem war deh nuh too normal enuh, so everyone just fraid and a lock in now," he said.
