Rejected lover jailed for setting ex’s house ablaze

A Kingston man who reportedly failed in his effort to rekindle a relationship with his former flame is alleged to have locked himself inside her Swallow Road house before setting it on fire.

Police said the man, Nicholas Rhodes, as well as the woman and her daughter had to be rescued from the house.

Reports from the Hunts Bay Police are that about 6:30 a.m., Rhodes, otherwise called 'Nick', of Duhaney Drive, Kingston 20, went to the home of a woman who he had a relationship with in an effort to rekindle the relationship. When his request was not met, he allegedly set the house ablaze.

Neighbours reported hearing the woman's cry for help and summoned the police. The occupants of the house were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Rhodes was subsequently charged with two counts of attempted murder and arson.
