Secretary charged with fraud
Detectives attached to the Morant Bay Criminal Investigation Branch have arrested and charged a St Thomas resident following a number of fraudulent incidents between November 11 and December 12, 2024.
Reports from the lawmen are that on January 11, 2025, three complainants attended the station and reported that 31-year-old Rakim Rasheena Ramsay, a secretary of Cottage Lane, Yallahs, St Thomas, collected $409,500 from each of them. It is alleged that Ramsay, while posing as a travel consultant, solicited the money from the complaints to supply Canadian work permits. Ramsay managed to accrue $1,228,500 from the complainants.
Ramsay, who was not able to return the monies, and allegedly used the monies for her own benefit, was subsequently arrested and charged based on complainants' statements and a question-and-answer session. She was charged for fraudulent conversion, obtaining money by false pretence and conspiracy to defraud.
