St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) blanked The Manning's School 3-0 in the second round of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup football to boot the Westmoreland-based school from the competition.

STETHS, the Group 3 winners, join Manchester High, who defeated William Knibb 1-0, in the round of 16. Both are tied on seven points in the group with STETHS ahead on goal difference.

In a hostile environment in Savanna-la-Mar, Jordan Blake opened the scoring in the 60th minute. Justin McPherson doubled the lead when he netted in the 79th minute before Henry Johnson completed the scoring in the 88th minute.

Manning's could only blame themselves for the defeat as they wasted several clear chances. Everton Tomlinson, the coach of Manning's, was heard during half-time telling his team, "We have to work for each other and fight together. Just relax, we cannot afford to draw."

The hosts were, however, frustrated by STETHS' solid defence and swift attacks.

Omar 'Rambo' Wedderburn, coach of STETHS, said the team came with a game plan and they executed well.

"We came here not to defend but to hunt a goal or two. We are looking forward to the next round and like we always do, plan for the opponents and then we execute," Wedderburn said.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game and Manning's were going to dig deep but overall we feel good about the game," Wedderburn said.

Tomlinson called the game disappointing and branded the officiating as 'outrageous.'

"I am officially retiring from football. I am hurt. What I witnessed here today for the officiating, gives me no encouragement to continue to teach young people to play or continue with the game. I am done with it and I don't think I can offer anything more," he said.

He continued "I am upset and as of this moment I don't want see or hear about football. Believe me I am that bitter."

Other teams through to the round of 16 are Cornwall College and Kemps Hill High from Group 1. Cornwall registered a hard-fought 4-0 win over Spot Valley yesterday while Kemps Hill broke the hearts of Rusea's High, going through with a 1-0 victory.

Defending champions Clarendon College booked their place after a 2-0 win over Titchfield High. In Group 8, McGrath High won 3-2 over Christiana High while Garvey Maceo thrashed St Mary High to advance.
