Calabar’s Gordon maintains hot streak
CALABAR High School's Class One athlete Shaquane Gordon continued his hot sprinting form this season after another top-notch performance at Saturday's Camperdown Classics at the National Stadium.
Coming off success at the New York International Showcase Indoor meet in the 55 metres hurdles, and winning a week later in the 110m hurdles at the Youngster Goldsmith Classics, Gordon produced a personal best 10. 34 seconds to win the Class One 100 metres.
Tremaine Todd of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) was second in 10.50, while Ainsley McGregor of Wolmer's Boys', who won his heat in 10.51, was third overall.
It continues to be an overwhelming season so far for Calabar High's athletes. They dominated the Class Two 100 metres, as Byron Walker was best in 10.71, ahead of teammate Ched Brown, 10.82, with Radeeki Walters of STETHS grabbing third in a personal best 10.88.
Hot Class Three sprinter Rajuan Romelly of St Jago foiled Calabar High's winning streak after capturing the 100 metres in 11.23. Joshua Dawkins of Calabar was second in 11.25, with third going to Darrell Douglas of Jamaica College (JC) in 11.31.
Alejandro Palmer gave Calabar High a win in the Class Two 800 metres, stopping the clock at 1:58.19, while Alfario Cunningham of Wolmer's Boys' won in Class Three in 2:04.67, with Yoshane Bowen of Maggotty High taking Class One 1:53.78.
Calabar sent a strong message to rivals in the Class One 4x100m relay. Led by Gordon, they whisked away to an impressive 40.09 seconds for the win, finishing ahead of Herbert Morrison Technical (40.50), with St George's College third in 41.03.
JC ruled supreme in classes Two and Three. The Old Hope Road team captured the Class Two event in 41. 37 ahead of St George's College (42. 43), with Petersfield High third in 42.62. JC won the Class Three relay in 42.84 ahead of Manchester High (44.20) and Kingston College (44.80).
In female action, Abigail Campbell of Hydel High led the way after posting 53.59 seconds to win the girl's Class One 400m. The Vere Technical duo of Sherese Wint and Shevaughn Thomas both clocked an identical 54.93 for second and third.
Wolmer's Girl's Abigail Wolfe was best in the Class One 100 metres, winning in 11.85 ahead of Vere Technical's Briana Wilson (11.93) and Hydel's Jody-Ann Daley (11.99).
Hydel's Natassai Fletcher was best in the Class Two 100 metres, posting a personal best 11.97, as Vere Technical's Posha Gaye Forrester was second in 11.98, with Wolmer's Girl's Natriece East third in 12.03.
Ferncourt High's outstanding Rihanna Scott remained unbeaten this season after capturing the Class Three 100 metres in 12.11 ahead of Shayan Smith of St Mary High (12.29) and Shemeika McLean of Foga Road High, who took third in a personal best 12.34.
In relay action, Hydel High posted a nippy 48.98 seconds to win the Class Four 4x100m ahead of Convent of Mercy Academy (Alpha Academy) 49.22 and Wolmer's 49.74.
Alpha were best in Class Three in 47.87 ahead of Vere Technical, 48.20, and St Mary High, 48.26.
Vere Technical topped Class Two in 46.21, while Hydel were tops in Class One in 46.09.
