Tracy taking things ‘step by step’
The year 2018 was a special one for Tyquendo Tracy as twice that year he dipped under 10 seconds, with a best of 9.96 seconds. The 31-year-old sprinter is hoping to work his way back into that form.
Last Saturday at the Western Relays at GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport, the 2018 NACAC 100 metres champion, who also anchored the Americas 4x100m relay team to victory at the London Athletics World Cup, showed prime form.
He breezed to 6.63 seconds for third in the men's Invitational 60 metres behind winner Kadrian Goldson of Sprint Tec (6.59) and second-place finisher, his training partner at Swept Track Club, Guyanese Emmanuel Archibald (6.59).
Later, Tracy teamed with Archibald, Junior Harris and Nickoy Drummond to give their team victory in the Clubs/Institutions 4x100m relay in 39. 46 seconds, turning back G.C. Foster Lions (39.58) and the Yohan Blake-led Dynamic Speed Track Club, which finished third in 39.65.
Tracy is pleased with his performance so far this season.
"Everything now is about training. Things are getting better and I can't complain and I am really happy as to how things are going," said Tracy.
"My teammates are also doing well and this does help to push me. I am not trying to put myself under any pressure as I am just working week by week and step by step and see where it goes from there," he added.
Meanwhile, the Okiele Stewart-conditioned Swept Track Club registered two solid wins, through their 4x400m male team, which included outstanding 400m hurdler, Roshawn Clarke, which sped to victory in the thrilling Clubs/Institutions event in 3:09.45, ahead of G.C. Foster College, 3:09.75, with third going to the University of Technology in 3:14.55.
In a match race in the men's 4x200m, the Yohan Blake-led Dynamic Speed A team clocked a meet record of 1:24.73 for the win, getting the better of their 'B' team, which clocked 1:25.26. - R.G.
