All set for West Kingston Jamboree on Sunday

It made its return last year after a four-year break, and was so successful that organisers decided to go bigger and better for the 2015 staging.

The highly anticipated West Kingston Jamboree is set for Sunday at the Tivoli Gardens playfield, and promises to be a show to be remembered.

Oneil Coke, director of Liv Up Records, whose company is organising the event, told The WEEKEND STAR that the line-up will boast some of the biggest names in dancehall, past and present.

"We have a good mixture," he said. "We have some of the veterans in the business, like Ken Boothe, Josey Wales, Nitty Kutchie and Major Mackerel scheduled to perform, and we also have the present stars in the business such as Dexta Daps, Vershon, Popcaan and Chi Ching Ching. The show promises to be an exciting one."

The event starts at 7 p.m., and Coke is encouraging persons to turn up early. "We want to make sure that we abide by the laws surrounding entertainment events, so we are encouraging people to come out early so that we can start on time and people can get to thoroughly enjoy themselves."

He said the event is about 'oneness' and revealed that the promoters have already begun to build a vibes in the community leading up to the event by hosting nightly competitions.

"We have our football, deejaying and singing competitions in the night to help build a vibes before the event. It's all about the unity at West Kingston Jamboree, so this year we decided to build the unity from early and people love the vibes. They have been participating in the competitions and have been very supportive."

He also gave information on the essay competition that was launched last year, stating that the winners will be revealed on Sunday as well as the topic for this year's competition.

"The essay competition got a favourable response last year," he said. "We received about 12 good entries and we had to choose the top three."

Coke expresses gratitude to his sponsors stating that without them the event would not have been possible.
