Dinthill Technical celebrates All Together Sing win
On Monday, activities on the streets from Linstead to Bog Walk in St Catherine were at a standstill as the Dinthill Technical High School celebrated its victory in the recently concluded season of the All Together Sing choir competition.
It was an occasion which saw students, staff and parents - atop a trailer - parading throughout the townships. Principal Anthony Garwood was in a festive mood with those under his charge, as he led the celebration.
"To be crowned champion of the 2024 All Together Sing choir competition is a very monumental achievement for the school and the community. We were close in prior years, so this trophy puts the school in great company, so we have taken our celebration to the street to show our appreciation," Garwood said.
He said that the objective is to build a stronger partnership with the school and the communities. He acknowledged the long-serving sponsors and supporters, including the Linstead Hospital, the police, Tradewinds Citrus and the ordinary citizenry who serve the 86-year-old institution. The school community is ecstatic with the victory.
"We the past students of this noble institution celebrate the achievement of being crowned champion, so we gave cash incentives to the choir and the relevant personnel that form support for the end result," said Joseph Small, president of the Dinthill Past Student Association. Amoy Levers, president of the Dinthill Parent-Teacher Association, noted that the school finished third in 2022 and second in 2023.
"We were convinced that 2024 would be ours and so it was. Words are not enough to express the heartfelt appreciation," she said. Keresha Ferguson, a parent, said that she was very pleased with the school's achievement.
"As a parent, it means a whole lot to us, as we have to support our children's choir rehearsal week in and out. So the victory is overwhelming and we join the celebrations," Ferguson said.
