Patrick Roberts, former manager of dancehall legend Beenie Man, is urging him to put the brakes on his "unnecessary King of the Dancehall chatter" and think before speaking, especially when making comments that disrespect other cultures.

"Beenie Man has been in this business for four decades. He needs to wake up and understand the current trends and his own status in dancehall. Being the King of the Dancehall is not for eternity. He was accredited that status during his time, but right now it is Kartel's time, and I would say that Kartel deserves the title. Beenie Man is now a living legend," said Roberts, founder of Shocking Vibes, the label that nurtured Beenie Man and helped propel him to Grammy-winning status.

Beenie Man's recent antics have sparked much conversation, giving bloggers plenty to talk about, particularly his ongoing claims to the King of the Dancehall title and attempts to engage in a war of words with Vybz Kartel.

"When Beenie Man got his 'flowers', nobody wanted to take it away from him, so he needs to leave Vybz Kartel alone. 'Low Kartel with him 'bouquet'," Roberts emphasised.

Roberts also called on Beenie Man's management to "urgently rein him in", referencing the controversy surrounding the deejay's remarks about 'doubles', a popular Trinidad and Tobago street food. During an interview on the Drink Champs podcast with rapper N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, Beenie Man stated, "I love Trinidad but I don't eat doubles, because dogs don't eat doubles and I don't eat anything that dogs don't eat. I don't eat doubles."

Roberts offered a word of caution to Beenie Man.

"You do not ever go into someone's country and try to disrespect their culture. Sometimes Beenie Man speaks out of turn without even realising it. These things that he utters, he usually says it around his team before he says it publicly. When I was around him and he did that, I would put him in his place there and then. I would sit him down and let him understand that these things will not be tolerated, and that we do not take it for a joke," Roberts said.
