Star of the Month: Spice talks fashion

She is known for her over-the-top outfits on stage and is not afraid to play with colours as far as her hair is concerned. She is always reinventing herself and puts every effort into ensuring her image is so on-fleek, others will want to copy her style.

She is a trendsetter and over the years, her elaborate style and unique fashion sense has earned her a spot on the best dressed female artiste list at almost every award show on the island. Yes, she has walked away with the title a couple of times. In today's feature, our STAR of the Month, Spice, talks about all things fashion.

STAR: You have become known as somewhat of a fashion icon in the dancehall, what inspires your fashion sense?

Spice: My fashion sense comes from every style that I see and like. I basically just always add my own touch to it. I try to stay away from the trend and go above or over the top so that I always stand out.

STAR: Name some of the designers both locally and internationally that you love.

Spice: Locally I like HOD Gregory (Gregory HOD Williams) as a designer and Kevin as well, who has done a lot of special pieces for me.

STAR: What was the first piece of designer item you ever bought?

Spice: A Gucci bag.

STAR: When you're away from the dancehall stage are you a jeans and T-shirt kinda girl, or are you always glammed up?

Spice: I'm a T-shirt kind of girl and I guess it's because I dress up so much on stage, so off stage I try to enjoy being simple.

STAR: You have your own clothing store, what inspired your decision to open one?

Spice: I'm always wearing something unique or unusual so people would always stop me and ask 'Where did you get that?' Because I travel the world, I found it easy to always keep up with the latest and most unique fashion so this is really what 'birthed' the idea of owning my own store Spicey Couture. I have a passion for shopping and I've always wanted to own my own chain of fashion stores so Spicey Couture is basically me living my dream.

STAR:. Any plans to expand?

Spice: Yes, I would love to take Spicey Couture worldwide so plans are in the pipeline. I would love to start by taking it islandwide in Jamaica first though.

STAR: What kind of fashion sense should a guy have to get your attention?

Spice: A guy should be well attired to grab my attention. There is a trend out there now where the man dem a wear the jeans pants dem like tights and the top tighter than mine, that fashion style turns me off. I love the masculine look, he doesn't have to be decked out in the most expensive brand name either, even a jeans and a T-shirt is fine for me as long as it's well put together. It can't be a red T-shirt and a green sneakers cause mi ago wonder if him a mad man (laughs). I don't know about anyone else, but the way how a man dress clearly tells me who he is.

STAR: Handbags or shoes?

Spice:Handbag and shoes both are my weakness. I'm not sure which one to pick because a the two a them alone can done mi money. Lol!!

STAR: Describe what the inside of your closet looks like.

Spice: Inside of my closet looks like it's about to burst open or fall apart because it over ram with clothes and shoes to be honest. I have to keep giving stuff away. You can come shopping in my closet (smiles).
