Five questions with Tanto Blacks

Our STAR of the Month is Mr 'Real Rich' himself, Tanto Blacks.

The energetic entertainer burst on to the scene in 2009 as a contestant on the popular talent show, Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall. His gimmicks and high-energy performance won him the hearts of many Jamaicans during the competition, and in 2016 he is still one of the favourites among Jamaicans as it relates to entertainers.

Lately, he has been enjoying much success in his career, with singles such as Real Rich and Lifestyle doing extremely well on the local circuit. Today we learn a bit more about the artiste. This is Five Questions with Tanto Blacks.

1 STAR: What was your high-school experience like at Edwin Allen?

Tanto: The experience was great innu, because when I started Edwin Allen, mi neva know nothing much, but the teachers dem work with me and make sure say mi get mi schoolwork right. Mi enjoy my days and the attention that the teachers showed me.

2. STAR: What did you want to be when growing up?

Tanto: I always wanted to work on a ship. Mi neva have no specific job in mind, but I just loved the idea, so whether I was working as a chef or a waiter didn't matter; I just wanted to work on a ship.

3. STAR: Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Tanto: I am a very God-fearing person (laughs). I read my Bible and pray very often. I love God and church. When I'm at church, I love the message and the prayers.

4 STAR: What type of father are you?

Tanto: I'm a strict father. I make sure my children tek dem book. Dem affi do dem homework and go a dem bed by a certain time. I make sure they know that education is very important.

5 STAR: What/who inspired you to do music?

Tanto: Well, I inspired myself innu, because mi always tell myself say fi go out and get it, but growing up mi see man like Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Baby Cham and Shabba Ranks a deal wid di ting, and mi admire them and wanted to do like that. When dem go international, that give me a extra drive because mi want to go international too and win a Grammy one day.
