Man remanded for credit card fraud

An office attendant who is accused of using nearly $500,000 from a man's credit card was remanded in custody in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Winston Reid is charged with obtaining money by false pretense.

According to official reports, the complainant visited the National Commercial Bank and was having difficulties with his account.

A man with a name tag claiming to be a legitimate employee approached the complainant, telling the man that he needed to leave the credit card with him for the problem to be sorted out.

The complainant reportedly left his credit card with the accused. When the complainant realised that he was unable to do business using his credit card, he contacted NCB only to be told there was a restriction on his account.

Investigations by the bank revealed that a cheque valued at $379,000 was lodged in the complainant's name by an unknown person. A transaction of $113,046 was also removed from the credit card from an NCB ATM.

Reid was remanded in custody until December 15.
