Vendor on assault charge to go to trial

A vendor accused of hitting and stabbing a man in downtown Kingston will be tried on May 10 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Kevin Myers, 24, of Luke Lane, Kingston, pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and assault at common law when he appeared in court on Monday.

Allegations are that on November 30, the complainant was driving a tractor in downtown Kingston and delivering goods when he asked a group of vendors to move their goods to allow him passage.

Myers, who is a father of two, allegedly refused the man's request and retaliated by hitting the complainant in the face and stabbing him.

Myers' lawyer, however, refuted those claims, saying his client acted in self-defence after the complainant pulled his licensed firearm.

A fingerprint order was made and bail was offered in the sum of $50,000 with surety.
