$50,000 fine for stabbing woman

A man who stabbed a woman in her head and other parts of her body, allegedly because she pointed him out to her boyfriend, was fined on Friday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's (RM) Court.

Charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is 21-year-old Devon Mason from Jones Town in St Andrew.

He pleaded guilty on his first appearance, and when he reappeared on Friday with an attorney, the guilty plea was upheld, however, a different picture of what took place was painted to the court.

His attorney sought to tell the court that Mason was a model citizen and it was the complainant who caused her boyfriend to beat his client, and because of what transpired, she was attacked.

The court heard that the complainant was stabbed three times during the attack.

The complainant received injuries to her head, arm and back.

The court was also told that the police had intervened in the matter involving the complainant's boyfriend and the accused, however, he allegedly went in pursuit of the complaint afterwards, blaming her for pointing him out wrongfully.

Mason was fined $50,000 or six months' imprisonment. A

fingerprint order was also made.
