Ganja farmer given time to pay fine

A St James man who pleaded guilty recently after he was arrested for cultivating ganja has been given until February 26 to pay the $4,500 fine that the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court has slapped him with.

Preston Dobson, 44, had previously pleaded guilty to possession of and dealing in ganja before his appearance in court last week.

Although the details of the allegations were not outlined, the court was told that the police went to Dobson's home and conducted a search of the premises. During the search, 10 ganja plants were found in his yard.

Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small ordered Dobson to pay a fine of $1,500 or spend 30 days in jail for possession of ganja, and $3,000 or 30 days for dealing in ganja.

Dobson then requested time to pay the fines, and had his bail extended until February 26 to allow him to do so.
