Robbed while in Hospital... One-legged man claims thieves took everything

A senior who lost one of his legs two years ago wants to put his life back on track.

Carlton Miller, 65, said in addition to having one of his legs amputated, he was robbed of his comfort and tools of trade by criminals who broke into his house while he was hospitalised.

"They took my working tools, my television, DVD player, breakfront cabinet, divan bed, dresser and table. I have to sleep on the floor," Miller, who is from Crescent Road, St Andrew, told THE WEEKEND STAR.

Miller, who said he was a plumber, told THE WEEKEND STAR he made an attempt to report the matter at the Hunts Bay Police Station but was turned away.

Miller claimed the duty officer said the fact that he was hospitalised at the time of the robbery means he could not identify the criminals.

He said he immediately formed the impression that the matter would not have been investigated and so he left the station.

Struggling to move on, Miller has now turned to the public as he seeks an artificial leg to better balance life going forward.

"KPH [Kingston Public Hospital] say the modular is to be purchased at a cost of $135,000 and I have to first make a downpayment of $76,000 before the process can be started. I am reasonable so anything I can get help with I will accept it food, clothes - any sort of help I can get I will be grateful," Miller said.
