Cashier accused of stealing $200k

A St James woman who is accused of stealing more than J$200,000 from her employer to make a downpayment on a house will make her next appearance in the St. James Parish Court on September 8.

Shalee Delisser, of a Montego Bay address, is charged with larceny as a servant. It is said that she was employed as a cashier at a cambio on the premises of a Montego Bay-based hotel at the time of the incident.

When the case was brought up for mention, it was put off due to the prosecution's case-file not being ready. As a result, Delisser had her bail extended until September 8.

Allegations are that on June 30, Delisser was observed removing US$1,800 (J$227,758.93) from her handbag, and when questioned, she said her boyfriend had asked her to change the money. She also reportedly said that she had taken J$219,000 the day before, as she and her boyfriend were planning to purchase a house and needed the downpayment.

It is further alleged that the following day, an audit was carried out and a shortfall was discovered in Delisser's till. As a result, on July 2, the police were summoned to the business establishment.

When cautioned, Delisser reportedly said, "Officer, mi tek $250,000, but mi put back $37,000." She was subsequently arrested and charged.
