Stolen paint hidden in garbage bin - Employee charged for stealing $1 million worth of products

A father of two has found himself in hot water with the law after he was charged for allegedly stealing more that $1 million worth of paint material from his employees, Diamond Paint Manufacturing Limited.

The Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court prosecutors allege that Kymani Walcott, 33, of Kingston 8, committed the crime between November and December last year.

A security guard employed to the company reported to the police that on multiple occasions, Walcott would visit the premises at 3 a.m. and ask to be let in on the compound and remove items from the garbage bin which were placed there the previous day.

On one occasion, a company personnel discovered the raw materials hidden in the garbage bin and made enquiries of the security guard, who explained what he had been observing Walcott doing over time.

The police were called in and Walcott was subsequently arrested. However, his attorney denied the allegations, saying Walcott was not on the scene at the time the items were discovered, therefore, there is not much evidence tying him to the crime.

He further argued that his client works in the tinting department and does not have access to the raw paint material he is alleged to have stolen.

Judge Andrea Collins granted bail in the sum of $300,000 and Walcott is to report to the Constant Spring Police Station twice weekly until he returns to court on March 6.
