Commish Quallo vows to fight corruption

In his first public address as Commissioner of Police, George Quallo declared unequivocally that his tenure at the helm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force will be characterised by "a valiant fight against corruption."

Quallo, who is the 29th Commissioner of Police, said that it is essential to win the trust of the public if Jamaica is to win the fight against crime.

He said he plans to do this by leading the way in community policing. "I am a firm believer in communicating with the people, and that is why you are going to see me on the ground, in your communities, in your towns, in your town, in your villages, pon di corner," Quallo said at his installation ceremony at the Police Officers' Club on Hope Road in St Andrew yesterday.

He also pledged to take care of the welfare of the men and women he leads. "I believe that once certain administrative obstacles are removed from the services of our officers, a more dynamic and a more motivated force will emerge," Quallo said.
