Man beats babymother at police station

A man who beat his babymother while in full view of officers at a police station, was hauled before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court to answer to his crimes on Friday.

Twenty nine-year-old Marvin Brown, a salesman and painter of Linstead, St Catherine, pleaded guilty with explanation to the charges of assaulting a female, threatening her, and disorderly conduct.

Brown, who shares a one year old son with the complainant, claimed that the incident, which occurred on June 9, stemmed from a phone call which his babymother got from her other babyfather.

"Me and her was at home a smoke a spliff and chill. Her phone ring and it was her other babyfather, and she go around to her granny room and no come back until the next morning. Me nah lie, me get ignorant," Brown told the court.

Brown continued to say an argument developed between him and his babymother the following morning, during which he threatened to kill her.

Subsequently held

Further reports from the persecution are that following the dispute between the two, Brown left the house with the child without his babymother's knowledge. He was subsequently held by the police and escorted to the Papine police station.

While at the station, the complainant arrived and attempted to take the child from Brown, when he punched her in her face twice before being restrained by officers.

When arrested and cautioned by an officer, Brown said, "Officer, a because me love me son."

In court, the presiding judge Judith Pusey asked the babymother what she wants to be done to the accused. She responded, "He can go home but me want him to keep a distance from me. I'm scared of him."

After admonishing the accused, Pusey warned that he will be sent to prison if he hits his babymother again.

She then ordered that he pays $1,000 or spend 10 days in prison for threatening her, and $2,000 or 30 days imprisonment for disorderly conduct.
