RJRGLEANER gives support to Dominica's relief efforts

The RJRGLEANER Communications Group has partnered with Food For The Poor (FFTP) in a hurricane relief effort. The partnership is aimed at providing assistance to the people of Dominica in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, which obliterated the island's infrastructure, leaving its citizens wanting.

"We are lucky not to have experienced what our neighbours have experienced, and it was felt that as the largest media group in Jamaica, we needed to do something to assist," said chief operating officer of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, Christopher Barnes.

Working in conjunction with FFTP, the group has been using its media platforms to encourage persons to make their contributions of canned food and other basic necessities.

"We called Food For The Poor, offered to partner with them to get the message out. We have got a list of items that they need and are using our media inventory to promote the effort. We have also offered our head office locations as drop off points," said Barnes.

FFTP is encouraging persons to make contributions of tarpaulin, water, and beverages.

Members of the public can drop off contributions at 7 North Street, and 32 Lyndhurst Road in Kingston; and 9 King Street, and 23 Orange Street in Montego Bay.

The group has also sent a team of news reporters to the Dominica for on-the-ground reporting of the relief and recovery process for the hurricane-ravaged island.
