Mourning mom on Mothers' Day

Tashiana Kelly will go through this Mothers' Day, without her mom, Pauline Newman. The 27-year-old's mother was murdered on May 2, mere days after she celebrated her 58th birthday on April 23.

For Tashiana and her other siblings, who are yet to get their mother's body for burial, there are no plans to celebrate Mothers' Day this year.

"The main thing is to get her body to plan her burial. Right now I am a mother myself and am just going to treat it as a normal day, a normal Sunday," Tashiana said.

She is the youngest of five children for the late Pauline Newman, who they would normally pamper on Mothers' Day.

"My mother and the five of us had a very good relationship. I am the youngest. She was the best friend, the best mother in the world, couldn't ask for a lady better than her. She was like our sister, we sit and talk about anything. We run any joke, she was our counsellor, our adviser," Tashiana said.

HARDEST THING

"She was a great grandmother to my son, niece, and nephew. You could call on her for anything. We are big people and mommy worked for us and we are big kids. Mommy throw her partner and pencilled out who and who she a go help with it."

She told THE WEEKEND STAR that losing her mom is the hardest thing she has ever had to contend with.

"If she did drop down and dead it wouldn't hard so. But when a somebody kill her like that, it's hard," she said.

According to police reports, Newman, who is of a Duncastle, St Andrew, address, was found in a shallow stream in the community with her throat slashed.

Residents reportedly stumbled upon Newman's body and alerted the police. The Lawrence Tavern police said that they have one suspect in custody.
