Mother wants answers after cops kill son

Dorrett Medder, 68, is seeking justice for the death of her son, who was fatally shot by police in St Mary on May 4.

Medder said she is broken, not only because she has lost her youngest child, but because information has not been forthcoming.

She said: "Whenever I call them is bare attitude. At least call me and mek mi know what is going on."

Shavaughn Gordon, 26, of a Smith Lane, Kingston, address, was killed along with 38-year-old Kadini Harrison, otherwise called 'Kaddi,' of Baccas Wood, Islington, St Mary.

According to the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the two men were part of a group believed to have been contracted to carry out killings and robberies in the parish.

Medder told The WEEKEND STAR: "Until now, no one has come to my doorstep and tell me anything about killing him. I call up there (Port Maria police) and the police tell me I am not to come up there, they will contact me and all now I don't hear from them."

According to Medder, the police had taken her son into custody on at least three occasions since October 2017.

She said that all instances were reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), for which she provided signed receipts.

She told our news team that the day her son was killed, he was working, and left to drive somebody to St Mary.

SIGNAL TO STOP

Medder said: "Now I need some documents that he had on him and I need his phone. He is not a dog, he is not a puss. He has a six-week-old daughter that I have to be taking care of."

INDECOM has launched an investigation into Gordon's death.

Reports are that at about 11:30 p.m. on May 4, a team of officers was on patrol in the area when the driver of a Nissan Bluebird motor car was signalled to stop.

The vehicle, which had four men aboard, came to a halt but the occupants allegedly shot at the police.

CCU said the attack was repelled and the men abandoned the car and ran.

A search of the community was subsequently conducted and two of the men were found with gunshot wounds.

The police said a .357 Magnum handgun with six expended cartridge casings and a Colt pistol with six .45 cartridges along with a plastic glove with 11 .45 cartridges were also found.
