Woman forgiven for stabbing ex-lover
A man who was stabbed in his chest by his former lover and had to be hospitalised begged the court to give the woman a chance yesterday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Charged with wounding is Elaine Bennett.
She pleaded guilty and offered the court explanation.
Bennett said: "Your Honour, we were in a relationship. We lef and go back, lef and go back. One night I come home sick, and he was pesting me for sex right through the night. That was when I broke off the relationship."
The accused told the court that she ended the relationship and lived without a man for six months.
"Me go so long without a man, and now me find a fiance. Him (complainant) a tell mi son him want to see me. Him come a mi yard after 1 inna the morning a knock down the whole place, a beat down the house. I went out to him and told him stop cause mi man inside," she said.
Bennett said she then went to the complainant's family and told them what he did.
She said: "After me tell dem fi warn him, him see me and wet me up with a Dragon, and raise the bottle to hit me. That is when I used the knife to stab him."
The complainant was hospitalised for four days.
Parish Judge Vaughn Smith then turned to the complainant and said: "Are you going to give her a chance?"
The complainant stood up, looked at the accused with dreamy eyes, and said: "Mi a go give her a chance."
Smith then said: "I see the way he is looking at you, and I know he still has feelings for you, but he has decided to give you a chance."
The matter was admonished and discharged.
