Broadbell remains undefeated in Europe

The European circuit continued to favour Commonwealth Games 110m hurdles champion Rasheed Broadbell while double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson Herah was edged out by a returning American Sha'Carri Richardson as Jamaica saw strong performances at the Spitzen Leichtathletik Meet in Lucerne, Switzerland, yesterday.

Broadbell continued his hot streak as he registered his third consecutive win on the circuit in the men's 110m hurdles, clocking 13.36 seconds.

American Eric Edwards finished second in 13.53, while his compatriot, Jamal Britt, was third in 13.54.

Tokyo Olympic Games champion Hansle Parchment was fourth, also in 13.54.

Broadbell, who clocked a career-best 12.99 to win last Friday, has not lost a race since July 17 when he finished third in the World Championships semi-final, narrowly missing out on the final.

Damion Thomas finished third in the men's 110m hurdles B race in 13.77.

In rain-soaked conditions, Richardson, who was competing for the first time since the United States trials in June won in 11.29 seconds, edging out Thompson Herah who finished in 11.30, the sixth time that she has not run under 11 seconds this season.

A rare false start saw the Jamaican disqualified from the Diamond League meet in Lausanne last Friday, where she was scheduled to face World 200m champion Shericka Jackson and five-time World 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. The same three women swept the podium at the World Championships in June.

Richardson who failed to make the American team for the World Championships registered her first win since June 4 in Florida where she clocked 10.73, the last time that she went sub-11 seconds this season.

In the women's 100m B race, Jamaica's Natasha Morrison won in 11.42, while Sashalee Forbes finished sixth in 11.87.Forbes would finish fifth in the women's 200m B race in 23.91.

In the men's 100m, Ackeem Blake finish third in 10.22, behind Commonwealth Games champion Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya, who finished second in 10.18. World Championship silver medallist Marvin Bracy of the United States won in 10.17.

Nigel Ellis placed third in the men's 100m B race in 10.50, but did not face the starter in the 200m B race.

Commonwealth Games champion Janieve Russell finished second in the 400m hurdles, clocking 55.25 behind former World and Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad of the United States, who won in 54.57. NACAC medallist Adelle Tracey finished sixth in the women's 1500m, clocking 4:07.73 while NACAC champion Christopher Taylor finished fourth in the men's 400m in 45.82. NACAC champion Andrew Hudson finished second in the men's 200m in 20.47 behind Kyree King of the United States, who clocked 20.40.

Former World champion Tajay Gayle placed second in the men's long jump, with a jump of 7.98m, his second consecutive top-three finish. Simon Ehammer of Switzerland won with 8m on his final attempt.
