Edwin Allen High School will continue celebrating its fifth consecutive hold on the coveted the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships title on April 28 with a massive family fun day on the school premises at Frankfield, Clarendon.

According to past student and member of the organising team, Duane 'Chozenn' Besentie, the celebration means a lot to the parish and it is not just an event for the athletes.

"This is not just a celebration for Edwin but the entire parish. Before winning our first title, it took years of dedication, trial, errors, blood, sweat and tears in every sense of the phrase. So it's only fitting that we celebrate in such a fashion," he said, noting that proceeds from the event will go towards creating a grandstand and a VIP stand on the school's playing field.

Chozenn said that the school's track and field programme needs support from persons in the community, and he is hoping that the event will be successful in getting the team that support.

"My dream is really to see the school with a synthetic track. It's very difficult to train on the grass turf, especially when it rains. We are looking for a strong turnout. We humbly ask our leaders and Corporate Jamaica to help us maintain and develop our track and field programme respectfully," he said.

World-class athletes

Dr Everton Walters, the school principal, spoke highly of the institution as he also urged people to come out and support the event.

"Edwin Allen has world-class athletes, so the agenda now is for us to have a world-class facility," he said. "A huge thank you to His worship, the Mayor of Kingston, Mr Delroy Williams, ClearSounds Production Services, Kirk Distributors with their brand Confidence, Pure Country Juices, Best Dressed Chicken, Roses FM, Delcon Constructions, and Yello JA who came on board in helping to make this event possible."

The event will feature appearances from entertainers such as Ding Dong and the Ravers Clavers, Deejay Sticko, Military Links, Marlon Famous and past students Chozenn and Garrizon Curtiz.
