There is an outbreak of coronavirus songs within the entertainment space, and high on the list is ‘ Corona (A Look Mi)’ by deejay Silver Cat.

And even as some persons welcome the humour in this ditty, which sees Silver Cat likening the virus to a girl who is pursuing him, but in whom he has zero interest, others feel that the coronavirus is too serious a threat to make light of it. But Silver Cat disagrees.

“I have studied the effects of music and I know that it cheers people up. When I heard about the coronavirus, I thought about it and figured that if I could do a song that make people laugh, it would be effective medicine,” the Clarendon deejay told THE STAR. “We have never seen anything like this in my lifetime, or in my mother’s lifetime, so I could sing that this is Armageddon and the world is coming to an end, but that would only make things worse.”

He said that the lyrics were not disrespectful, and everybody can identify with the song.

“People love the song so much that they have made their own video and put it out, even before I had a chance to do so. It is getting excellent reviews on social media and elsewhere,” he said.

A veteran dancehall artiste who had a big hit in the early 1990s with Fowl Affair, Silver Cat told THE STAR that he is using a tried and tested method with Corona, produced by John John on his father’s Jammys label.

“I am using a lot of metaphors, and this is what made Fowl Affair a great song. This is the type of writing that fans identify Silver Cat with,” he said.

The comments for the song have been mainly positive, with fans excited that Silver Cat “find it again” and that his “coronavirus song tek off like plane”.
