Dovey Magnum alleges industry ‘shadow ban’
Dancehall artiste Dovey Magnum is preparing to take her career to new heights, announcing plans for her first studio album. The bold, outspoken artiste, known for hits like ' Bawl Out' and her collaboration with Sukihana on ' Bad Gyal Team', is determined to push through what she believes has been a "shadow ban" on her music.
Revealing that she has been facing challenges within the industry, Dovey Magnum is relentlessly creating and releasing music.
"I have a whole bunch of music recorded, and at this point I'm just re-recording and releasing music, while still recording new tracks, even though I know I have been blackballed," she said.
The talented artiste said she refuses to let any hurdles slow her down.
"With the path my career is taking, I'm working harder because music transcends, and I believe there is still so much more out there for me in various demographics. Selectors don't play my music, my music doesn't get played on radio, but I am still working hard because I have enough motivation and I have experienced what the world love for dancehall is like, so I'm gunning to the top, regardless," she said.
The prospect of her debut album comes at a pivotal moment in her career. Dovey Magnum has already shown her ability to resonate with fans through her raw and relatable lyrics, as demonstrated in her latest, Toxic Love, a song inspired by her own complicated relationship.
Toxic Love, produced by Kai Kai Recordz and Crown Boss Recordz, is taking over digital platforms, thanks to its bold concept.
"The experiences shared on this track are more relatable than many would like to admit, and that's why I decided to share my story. This song came about because, currently, I am dating someone who is in a next relationship; and because of how good he treats me I had to write a song about him," Dovey Magnum said of Toxic Love.
The entertainer is unapologetically promoting Toxic Love and building her presence internationally. As the track gains traction, she's also celebrating a major milestone: the Likkle Miss Remix, featuring Skeng, Nicki Minaj, Spice, and other talented artistes, has officially gone platinum.
"Look at that, platinum record pon di artiste dem chest, thanks to everyone who supports, we love and appreciate you, and shout-out to the other artistes on the track," Dovey Magnum shared, teasing a second remix of the Likkle Miss track.
