Malie Donn marks new chapter with debut album
Jamaican dancehall artiste Malie Donn has released his highly anticipated debut full-length project, The Grand Rising.
Produced by Dan Sky Records and Attomatic Records, and distributed by VPAL Music, the album marks a pivotal moment in the career of the Spanish Town native.
Blending raw ambition, atmospheric beats, and vivid storytelling, The Grand Rising offers an unflinching look at Jamaica's harsh realities while resonating on a global scale.
The 23-year-old Malie Donn has quickly built a reputation for his bold street tales and clever rhymes, effortlessly navigating between deep reflections on grief and racy anecdotes about his latest adventures.
The album captures this dynamic range with standout tracks such as Don Julio, a playful exploration of excess, and Alive, featuring Byron Messia, which mixes gratitude with sorrow. The tracklist of The Grand Rising highlights Malie Donn versatility: 7:00, featuring Armanii, embraces unbridled indulgence; Cry, with Squash, is a poignant tribute to a fallen friend over haunting production; and Powaz is a kingpin manifesto, showcasing Malie's sharp wordplay and mischievous energy.
"This being my first official project, the title The Grand Rising signifies growth in my career," Malie Donn explains. "It's about me taking the next step to becoming the greatest, and it's very personal to me."
The project builds on a breakout year for Malie Donn. He sold out his first NYC show, delivered an electrifying performance at Reggae Sumfest, and brought modern dancehall to Brooklyn this summer for Angela Yee Day.
Since 2021, Malie Donn has emerged as a force in the dancehall scene. His track V6, one of the Caribbean's biggest global hits in 2023, helped cement his place among the genre's top talents.
