UPDATED: $12k Freedom Street tickets - Kartel offers Black Friday discounts to struggling fans

Financially challenged Jamaican fans of Vybz Kartel can secure discounted tickets for just $12,000 to attend the highly anticipated Freedom Street concert, set to light up Kingston on New Year’s Eve.

The show’s promoters have announced that a limited quantity of special discounted bleacher tickets are available. These tickets will be available on Black Friday weekend, beginning at midnight on November 29, and ending at midnight December 1.

“These specially discounted tickets are for the financially challenged Jamaican fans, and this initiative is supported directly by Vybz Kartel himself,” the event’s official website, freedomstreetlive.com, states.

Originally priced at US$150 (approximately US$23,600), would be reduced to approximately US$75 (approximately J$11,800) as part of a Black Friday sale. 

Organisers say Freedom Street is expected to be “the largest and most historic event ever staged in Jamaica”. It will be the Fever hitmaker’s first concert performance in 14 years, having spent 13 years behind bars for murder before his conviction was quashed in July.

“Freedom Street is more than a concert; it’s an experience, and a declaration that the ‘King of Dancehall’ and ‘Worl Boss’ is returning to his throne,” organisers said in the media release. The epic stage show begins at 10 PM, featuring a jaw-dropping fireworks display at midnight to ring in the new year.

Kartel will share the stage with a powerhouse of stars, including Popcaan, Spice, Skillibeng, Tommy Lee Sparta, Chronic Law, Shawn Storm and Lisa Hyper. 

At the high end, the ticket prices for the event come at a hefty tag of US$12,400 (approximately J$2 million) for furnished cycle track pods, and US$2,000 (approximately J$317,400) for centre stage viewing.

At the mid range, the ticket prices are US$400 (approximately J$63,500) for grand stand and US$500 (approximately J$79,300) for a standing spot in an open area behind centre stage on the infield.
