Razor B

He was a student at St Jago High on a track and field scholarship, but destiny had other plans for Roger Cassup, more popularly known as Razor B.

A native of St Catherine, Razor B found his passion for music while attending high school. Though he was on a track and field scholarship, the entertainer could not deny the call of music. It beckoned, and he answered.

In his early days, the entertainer was notoriously known for freestyling between and after classes. He performed in numerous local talent shows in his hometown community of Waterford and gained a lot of experience from those shows.

He credits his ability to handle the business today with the foundation that was set from he was younger. The early experience in performing, writing and freestyling helped him to build his confidence and technique to perform in front of a large audience. With musical influences such as Beres Hammond, Bob Marley, Buju Banton and Beenie Man, Razor B was determined to make it in the business, and it wasn't long before he managed to make a name for himself.

He burst onto the dancehall scene in 2014 when he released Whine and Stop, which introduced him as a force to be reckoned with. He followed up with a few other singles that did relatively well, but in 2015, he proved that he wasn't a one-hit wonder when he released the track Hot Up.

DANCE MOVE

Inspired by a dance move created by dancer 'Lattie the Diva', and produced by New Era Productionz, the song proved to be just what the entertainer needed to take his career to the next level. Mere weeks after its release, the song and the dance were one of the hottest tracks in the dancehall. The official video for the track racked up millions of views on YouTube and was a defining moment in the artiste's career.

He continued to impress the dancehall fraternity and kept the hits coming. His songs Up in Deh, Beetroot and Bruk Back are some of the most popular songs on the local circuit to date.

The fast-rising dancehall star is our Star of the Month for April. Over the next 30 days, his fans will get to know the man behind some of the most popular songs in the dancehall today.

With features such as A Day in the life of, Real Talk, Five Questions With, In the Kitchen and much more, STAR readers will get to go behind the scenes and not only learn about the entertainer, but also the person he is off stage and away from the mic.
