Twitter introduces new heart icon to show 'likes'
On November 3, 2015, Twitter ditched it's star icon for favourites and introduced a new heart icon that will now be used to mark likes.
In a blog post, Twitter product manager Akarshan Kumar explained that the star icon was changed because it can sometimes be confusing. especially to newcomers.
"The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people. And in our tests, we found that people loved it," the blog post said.
The social media platform also stated that the heart icon is now available on "Twitter for iOS and Android, twitter.com, TweetDeck, Twitter for Windows 10, and on Tweets across the Internet, as well as on the Vine Android app and website."
With the new heart icon, Twitter now has one more thing in common with rival Instagram.
