Girlfriend stabbed 16 times

A man accused of stabbing his girlfriend 16 times when she attempted to leave his house was taken into custody to undergo psychiatric evaluation when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Orville Johnson, 26, pleaded not guilty to the charge of wounding with intent.

In court, Johnson's girlfriend of over a year explained that she had gone to visit him, but told him she would not be staying overnight. She said they both spent the day together incident free, but things quickly changed when she started getting ready to leave.

"He just attacked me. I didn't see him get upset or anything. Him neva even say anything, him just started stabbing me, and me just start scream out 'please don't kill me'," she said.

She said she spent six days in hospital as a result of the injuries, which were mostly inflicted to her upper body and head.

When Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked Johnson to explain what happened, he claimed they had a "small confrontation".

Pusey expressed shock at the explanation, saying, "You can't walk the streets you know because if you call that a small confrontation, imagine what you call a large confrontation! And you saying you never touched her? How she get the stabs? Duppy start walk in 2016?"

Pusey further questioned, "You sick in you head?" to which Johnson responded, "I don't know."

The matter is to be mentioned again on January 18 to hear the results of his psychiatric evaluation.
