Cabbie fined for slapping passenger

A taxi driver who admitted to slapping and injuring a passenger was fined $10,000 or six months in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court on Monday.

Glenroy Cooper pleaded guilty with explanation to assault occasioning bodily harm.

He explained that on the morning in question, he was driving on Barbican Road where he and picked up the complainant and three schoolchildren. However, an unforeseen incident took place.

"Smaddy bad drive me and lick inna mi mirror so me get upset and tell everybody fi come out a me car, but she [the complainant] say she a go a work and she nah come out," Cooper explained.

Cooper said he discontinued his journey and returned to the taxi stand with the complainant in his car.

"When me reach back to the plaza me only feel when

smaddy [the complainant] box me, so by reflex me lick her back," he said.

The complainant did not appear in court.
