Man accused of beating mother-in-law granted bail

A young man accused of beating his mother-in-law, causing her to be hospitalised for two days, was granted bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The accused, Carl Brown, pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault.

The court heard that Brown hit his mother-in-law, causing her to suffer injuries. It is further reported that a fight had started between the two, when Brown held on to her foot. She then fell on her hip, damaging it.

However, Brown gave the court an altered version of what transpired.

SLIPPED AND FELL

"She kicked after me and she slipped and fell, and a me have to spend how much money on her medication," he said.

The presiding judge, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, granted Brown bail in the sum of $30,000 on condition that he reports to the Central Police Station on Mondays between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

He is to reappear in court on April 7.
